Ole Miss Rebels 2011-12 Men’s College Basketball Preview
Even though head coach Andy Kennedy has averaged 20+ wins in each of his five season in Oxford, they still haven’t resulted in an NCAA bid for the SEC program. For four of those seasons, Kennedy had point guard Chris Warren running the show. Now, Warren is gone and the keys to the team will be handed to freshman point guard Jarvis Summers and sophomore shooter Dundrecous Nelson.
Thankfully for Kennedy, he will have some senior frontcourt help to ease the transition. His two forwards—senior Terrance Henry and junior Reginald Buckner—have the talent to take them a long way if their long, athletic bodies can hold up. The head coach is looking to Henry specifically to carry the offensive burden of the team, even though he only averaged 9.7 ppg and 6.0 rpg last year.
The wild card may be junior forward Murphy Holloway, who wanted to be closer to his baby in South Carolina, so he transferred. But at the last minute, he wanted to come back to to Ole Miss, so he’s currently in transfer limbo awaiting word on his fate from the NCAA. If he’s allowed to come back, Adam Kenney might one of the toughest front courts in the SEC. It might be enough to take him to the NCAA tournament.
