Mississippi State Bulldogs 2011-12 Men’s College Basketball Preview
Through his first two years, junior forward Renardo Sidney has been an enigma for head coach Rick Stansbury. Sidney’s highs (high double-doubles against SEC squads) and lows (fights and suspensions) have been weathered by Stasbury because his bench wasn’t deep. However, this year the mercurial big man should be on his best behavior because the Bulldogs have the talent to bark at the big boys in the SEC.
The first is junior forward Arnett Moultrie, who is now eligible after transferring two years ago from UTEP. Moultrie is a banger in the mold of Sidney (in play and size at 6’11 and 249 pounds), but with a better attitude. He gelled with the team and averaged 16.8 points and 11.2 boards during a pre-season trip to Europe. He will be with the team’s standout sophomore point guard, Dee Bost who had to sit out last season due to academic issues. Along with four-star freshman shooting guard Deville Smith, the Bulldogs are looking to put their best paw forward and make a move in the SEC.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are a truly successful team within the SEC. The Bulldogs have captured 6 SEC Championships and 2 SEC Tournament Championships. Since 1990, the team has made trips to the NCAA Tournament 8 times, the NIT tournament 4 times and the Final Four once (1996). The team is famous for paving the way for Mississippi schools to play desegregated teams during the Civil Rights era. In 1963, coach Babe McCarthy snuck the team out of Starkville to play Loyola (Chicago's desegregated team) in the NCAA Tournament in defiance of orders from then Mississippi governer Ross Barnett.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs play their home games on the court at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, Mississippi. The arena is the largest on-campus arena in Mississippi, and seats 10,500 fans. Come out to Humphrey Coliseum for a chance to experience the rowdiness that is Mississippi State basketball!
