The TCU Horned Frogs basketball team is one of the rising brands in the Southwest. The Horned Frogs have been playing basketball since 1908 and have one of the oldest basketball programs in the country. From 1923-1996 TCU competed in the Southwest Conference against many of the top teams from Texas and Arkansas. During that span the Horned Frogs won or shared the SWC title 10 times. Since the breakup of the SWC, TCU has played in a number of conferences, and won the 1998 Western Athletic Conference championship. The Purple and White have also been widely represented in the NCAA Tournament, making over half a dozen appearances in the Big Dance, including 4 trips to the Sweet Sixteen. In 1968, the Horned Frogs advanced all the way to the Elite Eight. In 2012, TCU joined the Big 12 Conference, thrusting the Horned Frogs back into the national spotlight. Joining the Big 12 has reinvigorated TCU basketball fans and allows them to watch their Horned Frogs play against some of the top competition in the country. With unending support from a die-hard fan base, TCU basketball looks to take the next step and compete for its first Big 12 basketball title in the coming years. When talking with Horned Frogs fans about which Big 12 rival they most want to beat, Baylor comes up more often than not.
