Texas Longhorns Basketball Season Preview History

Texas Longhorns 2011-12 College Basketball Preview
It’s never a rebuilding year for head coach Rick Barnes and his team from Austin. However, he Longhorns come in to the 2011-12 season losing all five of their starters, including NBA-bound talents Tristan Thompson, Cory Joseph and Jordan Hamilton. So while the team has to restock talent, it will be with players like McDonalds All-American point guard Myck Kabongo.

Kabongo had originally planned to go to UT before deciding to widen his search out of high school. However, he did finally decide to go down to Austin thanks to Barnes’ track record with point guards in the NBA. Whether he is a one-and-done player depends on the NBA’s new contract, but while he’s in burnt orange, he’ll be on a team with mostly new players.

One of the few players around from the previous season is Kabongo’s backcourt mate, junior shooting guard J’Covan Brown, who will start the year as a leader by default. If Kabongo and Brown form a rapport and build a strong guard tandem, and senior forward-center hybrid Alexis Wangneme and freshmen forwards Jonathan Holmes and Jaylen Bond help create an interior presence, then sky’s the limit for the Longhorns in 2011-12.

2009-2010 Texas Basketball Preview:
The 2009-2010 Texas Longhorns Men's Basketball team should be one of the best teams in the nation. The Horns will be competiting with the Kansas Jayhawks for the top spot in the Big 12 and for the top rank in country. UT Head Coach Rick Barnes has a mix of experienced seniors and talented freshman, who should make Texas a top contender for a spot in the NCAA Final Four. Texas seniors Damion James and Dexter Pittman have legitimate Player of the Year credentials, while freshman Avery Bradley has a shot at being the top freshman in college basketball. The Longhorns will be one of best in the Big 12 and should be a top seed in the Big 12 Tournament and NCAA Tournament.
