The University of Central Florida Knights basketball team has been rising through college basketball’s ranks for 4 decades. The program had its first game in 1969 and has won over 670 games since. The Knights were instantly successful, posting winning records in the first 15 years of the team’s existence. The team was especially dominant in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s in at the Division II level. The Knights made 6 trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament from 1976-1982, including a tip to the 1978 Division II Final Four. UCF has continued this success at the Division I level reaching the Division I NCAA Tournament 4 times from 1994-2005. The Knights won their first Division I basketball conference championship in 2005, taking home the Atlantic Sun Conference crown. The team has claimed 4 Atlantic Sun Conference tournament championships. Notable former UCF basketball players include Bo Clark, Mark Jones, Stan Kimbrough, Jermaine Taylor, Marcus Jordan, and Jeffrey Jordan. 2013 marked a new era for Knights basketball as the program moved into the American Athletic Conference. The AAC is one of the premier basketball conferences in the country and puts the Knights on a national stage almost every week of the season. The University of Central Florida Knights basketball team plays their home games at CFE Arena in Orlando, Florida. CFE Arena has been home to the Knights since 2007 and can seat over 9,000 fans. Originally known as UCF Arena, CFE Arena replaced The Venue at UCF, which had been the home of Knight basketball since 1991. CFE Arena is part of the larger Knights Plaza athletic village, which is one of the premier university housing, athletic, and shopping centers in the country. The arena is known affectionately as “The Dungeon,” and has been one of the most hostile environments for opposing teams in the AAC. Opposing players walk out into a sea of black and gold and are met with deafening noise. Game days at CFE Arena have an unbelievable atmosphere and it is one of the best college basketball experiences in the South.
