2011-2012 San Jose State Spartans College Basketball Preview:
In the 2010-11 season, the San Jose State Spartans finished the season just above .500 at 17-16. Looking ahead to the 2011-12 season, the Spartans will look to improve by bringing a more aggressive approach to the court.
On offense, San Jose will be able to put up points this year with a number of talented players, including D.J. Brown, Chris Jones and James Kinney. Each of these individuals can drive to the basket and help the Spartans keep up with other high-powered offenses. This will be crucial as the team looks to become a competitor in the Western Athletic Conference.
Defensively, the Spartans may show signs of improvement as well. Players including Matt Ballard, Joe Henson and Lavanne Pennington will give San Jose an edge on their competitors. With an aggressive approach, the Spartans will have more control over the points scored against them in 2011-12.
Head coach George Nessman is expected to give the team an advantage as well. While other coaches may use a conservative strategy, Nessman brings a dynamic twist to the court that can help the Spartans improve in the upcoming season.
