Gonzaga University 2010 Men’s College Basketball Preview:
Don’t let the beautiful scenery surrounding Gonzaga University let you get your guard down. Once opponents enter “The Kennel,” the nickname given the Bulldog’s home stadium, they know they’re in for a dogfight. That’s because the opponents have to deal with an intimate setting of 6,000 Gonzaga fans cheering their home team on. You’ll rarely get the chance to see elite NCAA college basketball so close—and TicketCity can make it happen! So grab a seat, put on your “Spike the Bulldog” t-shirt and get ready for another dominant year under coach Mark Few.
Spokane isn’t a hotbed of basketball, but Few has managed to get great players to come to Spokane and regularly take them to the tournament. This year isn’t any different, except maybe he brought too many. Over the summer, three players from last year’s team— Andy Poling, Grant Gibbs and G.J. Vilarino—transferred out due to lack of playing time. Add the departure of last year’s star Matt Boudin to the NBA, and sophomore Elias Harris and senior Steven Gray are left to guide the team that was supposed to be done rebuilding into another late-March run. A hidden gem found could be combo guard Marquise Carter, a JuCo transfer who’s looking to fill in for Boudin and work with Harris in the backcourt. They will all need to gell quickly to continue the up-and-down tempo that has come to represent championship Gonzaga hoops—and make another Sweet 16 run in 2010.
