2011 ACC CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION:
Teams: Virginia Tech Hokie vs. Clemson Tigers
Date: December 3th, 2011
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Stadium: Bank of America Stadium
Charlotte will host this rematch of the ACC’s top schools, the Atlantic Division-winning Clemson Tigers (9-3, 6-2 Conference) and the winners of the Coastal Division, the BCS-bound Virginia Tech Hokies (11-1, 7-1 Conference). The two met earlier in the year with the Tigers taking it to the Hokies 23-3 for head coach Frank Beamer’s only loss of the season. This will be the fourth time in the past five years Virginia Tech has played for the ACC crown, and it will be up to the upstart Tigers, whose youth permeates throughout its roster, to stop them. It will definitely be a barn-burner at the Bank of America Stadium December 3rd, so be sure to get your tickets!
ACC Championship Games:
The ACC Championship Game is the annual college football game played to determine the champion of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The ACC is divided into two divisions, the Coastal Division and the Atlantic Division. The ACC Championship game pits the team with the best record from each division against one another. The game’s location changes from time to time based on agreements made between the ACC and various football stadiums. Some of the locations that have hosted or will host the ACC Championship include Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida; Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida; and Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Fans who attend the ACC Championship game are guaranteed to see some of the best and most exciting football in all of the NCAA, as well as tremendous school support for the teams representing the ACC.
The ACC Championship game was first played in 2005 when the Atlantic Coast Conference was divided into its two divisions. Prior to that season, the champion was decided simply by having the best record in the conference. Some of the great college football programs that play in the ACC and make the ACC Championship such a pleasure to watch include Florida State, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Miami, Clemson and Boston College. The ACC Champion is given an automatic bid to the BCS-affiliated FedEx Orange Bowl, unless of course the ACC Champion is chosen to play in the BCS title game, which will likely happen from time to time given the level of play found in the ACC. The game is truly must-see experience for ACC fans and college football fans in general.
