The Georgia Institute of Technology first fielded a football team in 1892 as the Blacksmiths. Their first game against the University of Georgia resulted in Tech's first win, and the ire of the Bulldog's fans helped spark a rivalry known now only as “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate”. The Yellow Jackets would have great success in the first part of the 20th century through to the '60s under legendary coaches John Heisman, William Alexander, and Bobby Dodd. With 3 National Championships and 13 Conference titles under these coaches, Georgia Tech then began to struggle in the '70s and '80s. Bobby Ross' arrival in 1987 would bring the Yellow Jackets back to form for another National Championship in 1990 and 2 ACC Titles. 2013 Georgia Tech Season Preview
Paul Johnson has led the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to five bowl games and two ACC Championship Game appearances in his five years as the head coach. However, after winning 20 games in his first two seasons that included an ACC championship, the Yellow Jackets are 21-19 in the last three years. The offense will continue to rely heavily on the run game with sophomore Vad Lee expected to be the point man in the triple-option offense. With Lee at quarterback, senior David Sims should lead a very deep group at the running back position.
The defense will return eight starters under Ted Roof, who took over as the defensive coordinator during the season last year. The Yellow Jackets will end the season by hosting state rival Georgia Bulldogs, with home contests also slated against Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh.

Georgia Tech vs. Georgia
It’s just some “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” but so far it’s the Bulldogs that are coming out victorious most of the time. The universities were founded over a century apart, but the hate is embedded in everything, including both school’s fight songs. If you’re a Georgia Tech fan, you love to sign “To hell with Georgia!” and this game is the best place to do it. The Ramblin’ Wreck season isn’t complete without a win over Georgia.
