The Arizona Wildcats football program first fielded a team in 1899 with the nickname Arizona Varsity. The team picked up the Wildcats moniker in 1914. Most football fans remember the success of the Wildcats program best in the 1990's under head coach Dick Tomey and his tough and powerful “Desert Swarm” defense. Who can forget the 29-0 slaughter of the favored Miami Hurricanes in the Fiesta Bowl in 1993, or in 1998 when the Wildcats ended the season with a 12-1 record and a #3 national ranking? 2014 Arizona Wildcats Season Preview

In his first season as the head coach of the Arizona Wildcats, Rich Rodriguez improved the win total by 4 games. His second year comes with higher expectations, but the former West Virginia and Michigan head coach is up for the challenge. The defense should be improved from 2012 with the return of many starters from last year’s squad. However, Rodriguez is known for his offense and the Wildcats finished 7th in total yards per game in his first season. Arizona will need to replace quarterback Matt Scott after Scott threw for over 3,600 yards. Along with quarterback, Rodriguez will need to find a replacement for his two top receivers. Dan Buckner graduated and junior Austin Hill tore his ACL in April. The good news is All-American running back Ka’Deem Carey returns. Carey led the nation as a sophomore by rushing for 1,929 yards and 23 touchdowns. Carey was also a factor in the passing game by hauling in 36 balls. Arizona will look to improve on their 8-win total with home games against UCLA, Washington State, and Oregon.

Go Wildcats...and TicketCity! Although the Wildcats didn't beat Oregon, a fun time was had by all. The energy was electric, the marching band was awesome, both before and during the game. TicketCity came through with the tickets on time, even though I ordered them last minute. Thanks! Would definitely use them again. September 26, 2011
