Big 12 Championship Previews
2009 BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW:
The 2009 Big 12 Championship Game is once again likely to have National Championship implications. The Texas Longhorns are currently in the top group of the BCS Standings, so if they remain undefeated, a Big 12 Championship Game victory will propel them to Pasadena. The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California is the host stadium for the 2009 BCS National Championship Game. The Longhorns last visit to the Big 12 Championship Game in 2005 had similar meaning; Texas defeated the Colorado Buffaloes 70-3 to advance to the BCS Championship Game. The Horns won a classic game against the USC Trojans in the Rose Bowl that year; the win earned Texas their 4th National Championship trophy.
While Texas is in the driver's seat in the Big 12 South Division, the Big 12 North is currently wide open. The Kansas State Wildcats, Nebraska Cornhuskers and Colorado are all competing to win the division and advance to the Big 12 Championship Game. The Big 12 North is likely to come down to the last few games of the season before it's decided.
The 2009 Big 12 Championship Game is being played in the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The luxurious, new venue should be an outstanding setting for the Big 12 game; expect to see tens of thousands of fans enjoying their gameday experience in Dallas.
The Longhorns and Cornhuskers have each won two previous Big 12 Championships. Kansas State and Colorado each have one previous Big 12 Championship trophy. The Oklahoma Sooners have the most Big 12 titles with 6 since the conference began in 1996.
