2010 Missouri Football Preview:
Missouri endured a difficult three-game losing streak in the middle of the season last year but was able to finish with an 8-5 record and an appearance in the Texas Bowl. The Tigers have the potential to eclipse that mark this year and contend for the Big 12 North title.
The offense will be lead by junior quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who had an impressive sophomore campaign by throwing for 24 touchdowns with only nine interceptions. The loss of a good chunk of wide receivers will be a challenge for Gabbert - the Tigers return only Wes Kemp from last year's starting lineup.
Defensive coordinator Dave Steckel has an impressive front seven, anchored by sophomore defensive end Aldon Smith, who racked up a school-record 11.5 sacks as freshman. The Tigers have a wealth of talent at linebacker as well. Junior Will Ebner and senior Andrew Gachkar both bring a significant amount of experience with them, and should be solid up the middle.
Missouri has a fairly easy non-conference schedule with games against McNeese State and San Diego State, plus they do not have to play Big 12 powerhouse Texas. If the Tigers can survive an October 30 date at Nebraska, it would not be too much of a stretch to pencil them in for the conference championship game.

The Missouri Tigers football program takes its name from a citizen brigade formed during the Civil War to protect the citizens of Columbia, Missouri Tigers from roving bands of plunderers. Missouri football takes this legacy seriously. One of only 39 teams in all college football to win more than 500 games, winning 12 conference championships, fielding 23 All-Americans and 11 members of the College Football Hall of Fame, the Tigers are one of most storied, yet underestimated, football programs in the country.
The Missouri Tigers football program began in 1890. Formerly playing in the Big Eight Conference, the team is now one of the toughest programs in the North Division of the Big 12. Missouri has played in 20 bowl games in its history - only 26 other teams have more bowl game appearances. Rivalries with Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Iowa State have lasted throughout the years. Missouri and Nebraska play for a trophy that was once a church bell stolen by a Nebraska Cornhuskers fraternity. The Oklahoma Sooners game has the longtime tradition of representatives from each school smoking the Tigers-Sooners Peace Pipe at half time. The Iowa State Cyclones game is played for a telephone trophy, donated by Northwestern Bell after a game in 1959 when the headset lines of the two teams were crossed, and coaches could hear their opponent's plays being called. The Missouri Tigers football program is rich with such traditions.
The Missouri Tigers play their home games at Faurot Field, also known as Memorial Stadium or the Zou in Columbia, Missouri. The stadium can hold more than 70,000 spectators. Its most well recognized feature is the white “M” made of stones behind the endzones. Visiting schools have traditionally tried to change the letter to an “N” for Nebraska or a “K” for Kansas. A Mizzou Tigers home game this season will be an unforgettable experience. Buy Missouri Tigers football tickets and be part of a longstanding college football tradition!
