The Oklahoma Sooners are one of the premiere teams in college football. The Sooners have a rich history of excellence, winning 7 National Championships in football. And OU has scored more points than any other team in the history of NCAA Division I-A football.
OU begin playing football in 1895. Since that time they have won almost 800 games, 40 Conference Championships (SWC, Big 8 and Big 12) and more than 20 bowl games. The enjoy one of the highest winning percentages in college football (over .750) and boast more than 140 All American football players. And they've had some of the most famous coaches in NCAA football lead their squad; Bennie Owen, Bud Wilkinson, Barry Switzer and Bob Stoops.
The Sooners teams under Stoops have been known for their stingy defenses and aggressive playing style. OU's division, the Big 12 South, is one of the most difficult divisions in football. It features annual match ups with the Oklahoma State Cowboys (Bedlam Series), Texas Longhorns (Red River Shootout, Red River Rivalry), Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
