The South Florida Bulls first fielded a football team in 1997. The team has had only one head coach in its brief history in Jim Leavitt. The Bulls have established themselves has having a high-powered offense with quarterback Matt Grothe, who was named rookie of the year in the Big East in 2006 for throwing for an average 258 yards per game. The USF Bulls played their first two bowl games in 2005 and 2006, losing the Meineke Car Care Bowl to NC State Wolfpack and winning the Papajohns.com Bowl against East Carolina respectively. South Florida Bulls has quickly proven itself a strong recruiter, and already sent a number of players to the NFL.
The South Florida Bulls play their home games at Raymond James Stadium. The stadium is the home field of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and holds up to 75,000 spectators. Opened in 1998, Raymond James Stadium was not long ago considered the “crown jewel” of NFL arenas.
