In the Fall of 1887, the Hoosiers played their first game under coach Arthur B. Woodford against Franklin, losing 10-8. Shortly thereafter, the program was disbanded due to lack of player and school interest in the sport. In 1925, Memorial Stadium was officially dedicated, and IU and Purdue play to a tie at the first Old Oaken Bucket game. The new, and current, Memorial Stadium is finished in 1960, and the first ever game played at the new field is versus Oregon State.
