2009 Iowa Football Preview:
Head Coach: Kirk Ferentz
The 2009 Iowa Hawkeyes should once again be one of the best teams in the Big 10 conference. Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz has been at the helm for more than a decade in Iowa City, so he has a roster full of talented players. The goal for Ferentz and his Hawkeyes will be to get through their early season non-conference opponents and into the meat of their Big 10 schedule with a strong record. If Iowa can do that, then Hawkeye fans might be booking reservations to sunny Florida for a big New Year's bowl game.

The University of Iowa officially recognizes its first football team fielded in 1889. The 1920’s saw great success for the Hawkeyes under Hall of Fame coach Howard Jones. When Jones left for USC, Iowa slipped to the bottom of their conference. 1939 saw a brief resurgence with team MVP and Heisman Winner Nile Kinnick leading the team to several upset victories and nearly to another Big Ten title. Coach Forest Evashevski would lead the Hawkeyes to their only National Championship (according to the Football Writers of America Poll) in 1958. Current coach Kirk Ferentz has his own share of honors with two Big Ten titles in the last 6 years.
The Iowa Hawkeyes play their home games at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa. The stadium holds more than 70,500 fans. Visitors to an Iowa game at Kinnick Stadium will be awed by the recent upgrades to the venue as well as the bronze statue of Nile Kinnick, Iowa’s only Heisman Trophy winner to date. A sense of Iowa’s history and future are both present at a Hawkeyes game. Buy Iowa Hawkeye tickets today and don’t miss any of the action!
