Cal Golden Bears Football Season Preview History

2011 Cal Football Preview:
It took nine years, but Cal head coach Jeff Tedford finally found out what it felt like to stay home during Bowl Season – and he didn’t like it. After an off-season where most of the coaches were swapped, Tedford and the Bears look to restart their bowl run again as one of the first members of the newly formed Pac-12 North division (along with Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Washington and Washington State).

Besides bringing in former Offensive coordinator/line coach Jim Michalczik from the Raiders, Tedford is also changing signal callers to complete the new/fresh page mentality. Junior Zach Maynard will be under center after sitting out last year due to his transfer from Buffalo. A known QB guru, Tedford will look to improve Maynard’s 2009 Buffalo numbers (2,694 yards and 18 touchdowns) by quickly getting him up to speed with a new number one rusher (junior Isi Sofele) and two veteran wide-outs in Marvin Jones, and Keenan Allen, who broke the freshman receptions records previously held by Desean Jackson.

Defensively, the Bears are in a better situation than other side of the ball. After being a bit of an after-thought in Tedford’s high-flying scoring act, defensive coordinator Clancy Pendegrast created a unit that led the Pac-10 in 2010. And although its star end Cameron Jordan is now playing pro in New Orleans, Pendergrast has seven of the eleven starters returning, with stud end and redshirt freshman Gabe King thrown into the mix. With all those engines hitting all cylinders in Berkley in 2011, It should be a great start for the program in the Pac-12 North.

2010 Cal Football Preview:
Fans of the Cal Golden Bears football team know the pleasures of attending a game at California Memorial Stadium - an arena that was designed to model the Colosseum in Rome and has repeatedly been voted one of the best college football stadiums. Throughout the years, die-hards have seen their team produce future NFL stars ,such as Aaron Rogers, Tony Gonzalez, DeSean Jackson and Marshawn Lynch. As the 2010 season kicks off, Cal can only hope that a little star power propels them to an eighth consecutive bowl game.

In 2009, coach Jeff Tedford led the Golden Bears to an eighth straight winning season, though the team finished just sixth in the Pac-10. This season, experience and returning talent may drive the team back to the top of the conference. Though the 2009 Cal team did not produce a 1,000-yard rusher for the first time in seven years, running back Shane Vereen, who ran for 952 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, will return and attempt to begin a new streak.

In addition, the Golden Bears have the edge at the tight end position; - only four Pac-10 teams field a returning TE, and Cal's Anthony Miller was the only one to receive honorable mention in all-conference honors.

The team opens its season on September 4 against UC Davis.

2009 Cal Football Preview:
Head Coach: Jeff Tedford
The Cal Golden Bears are one of the best teams in college football. So even though they finished 9-4 in 2008, they are still expected to compete for a BCS bowl in 2009. Cal Head Coach Jeff Tedford is a masterful quarterback coach, who once again will be tutoring a talented passer. Tedford will pair up with QB Kevin Riley to try to get Cal into the Rose Bowl as winners of the Pac 10.

2008 Cal Football Preview:
Head Coach: Jeff Tedford
Head Coach Jeff Tedford has turned around an ailing California Golden Bears football program and made it one of the most exciting to watch in the Pac-10. The 2007 season was a bit of a disappointment with the Golden Bears losing a number of players to the NFL and struggling to compete with the giants of the Pac-10. This coming season, however, will be an exciting one as Tedford and company continue to bring Cal back to the top of college football. A game at California Memorial Stadium this season will be a fantastic college football experience as fans watch the Golden Bears compete in the incredibly tough Pac-10 for conference honors and a bowl bid.
