The Buffs started playing college football way back in 1902. During the Bill McCartney era they were the best program in college football. Then CU football had some lean years. Now they are back and demand for tickets is stronger than ever. The cheapest tickets for a Colorado home game are starting around $100 per seat. Their marquee games may be as much as $250 or more per ticket.
The Buffaloes play in the Pac-12 Conference where they compete against the best teams on the West Coast. The Buffs biggest opponents are Arizona State, Colorado State, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Utah and Washington. Fans in Boulder expect to see CU compete to earn a bid in the Pac-12 Championship Game. A good year for Buffaloes would be to win the Pac-12 and earn a big bowl invite, while a great year for Colorado would be them getting back into a National Championship Game via the College Football Playoff.
Colorado vs Colorado State
The Buffs biggest rival are the Colorado State Rams, who are a mere 46 miles up the road in Fort Collins. The Rocky Mountain Showdown was first played in 1893 and since that time has been played over 92 times. The Buffaloes and Rams do not play every season, which makes it more special on those times that they do. The winner of the CU vs Colorado State game takes home the Centennial Cup and bragging rights for the coming year.
