The Marshall University Thundering Herd play their home games at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, West Virginia. Joan C. Marshall vs. Ohio

Known as the Battle for the Bell, this rivalry is one of the most passionate matchups in the region. The schools first met in 1905 and have played over 55 times since then. Separated by only about 80 miles, the Thundering Herd and Bobcats play for the right to take the Bell Trophy back to their campus. With Marshall moving to Conference USA, this rivalry is no longer a conference matchup, but remains one of the most anticipated non-conference games in the country.

Marshall vs. West Virginia

The two most storied football programs in the State of West Virginia, it is always a big deal when this game is on the schedule. Known as the Friends of Coal Bowl, the winner is awarded the coveted Governor’s Trophy and loads of state pride. The first meeting between the two schools was in 1911, but they only played 4 more times in the ensuing 95 years.
