The Army Black Knights football program is one of the most storied in all of college football. The Army Black Knights play football today as an independent having left the Conference USA after 2004. Army first fielded a football team in 1890. The program reached its greatest success in the 1940's under head coach Earl Blaik when the team won 2 back-to-back national titles in 1944 and 1945. Blaik's teams would produce 3 Heisman Trophy winners in the ‘40s and ‘50s. Bill Parcells and Vince Lombardi gained some of their earliest coaching experience with the Black Knights before going on to become legendary NFL coaches.
The Army Black Knights play their home football games at Michie Stadium at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York. The stadium was rated by Sports Illustrated as the #3 ranked sports venue of the 20th century due to its breathtaking view of the Hudson River Valley and the USMA campus below.
