Louisville Cardinals Football Season Preview History

2011 Louisville Football Preview:
Louisville had a return to their once-competitive teams last season, going 7-6 and winning the Beef O Brady's Bowl. Second-year coach Charlie Strong will have his hands full thsi year, though as he looks to replace some key pieces of last year's team, but he is certainly the right man for the job.

The offense lost both its starting quarterback and running back this year, and will turn to junior Will Stein to operate the system. Stein was a former walk-on but has proven himself worth in his limited action. Senior Victor Anderson will likely split time in the backfield with Jeremy Wright, and Stein's go-to receiver will be senior Josh Bellamy.

The defense will likely be a strong part of the Cardinals this year thanks in large part to sophomore defensive end B.J. Butler. On the opposite end of the line is senior Greg Scruggs who will provide some veteran leadership. The linebacking corps will be headed by Dexter Heyman who is an experienced leader.  As for the secondary, Hakeem Smith and Shenard Holton are both returning starters and should lead the way.

2010 Louisville Football Preview:
During the 2010 college football season, the University of Louisville Cardinals will try to remind fans why they're so proud to wear red and white. As recently as 2006, the Cardinals were one of the highest ranked teams in the country, and even drew some of the largest national audiences on their televised games. Leading into the 2007-2008 season, the team had made nine consecutive bowl game appearances and had just won its first BCS bowl game with an Orange Bowl victory over Wake Forest.

After finishing seventh in the Big East Conference last year, Louisville looks to the upcoming season as an opportunity to return to national prominence. In particular, the new offensive coordinator Mike Sanford will seek to improve the team's rushing offense and red zone efficiency.

Now with a little more experience under their belts, the two-headed rushing attack of junior Victor Anderson and sophomore Darius Ashley will be expected to carry the load this year. Last season, the two combined for nine touchdowns and more than 900 yards on the ground.

When the Cardinals open the season against Kentucky at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, ticketholders will be on their feet to usher in a fresh start in Louisville football.

2009 Louisville Football Preview:
Head Coach:Steve Kragthorpe
Louisville fans should be looking forward to the upcoming football season, because Cardinals Head Coach Steve Kragthorpe is entering his 3rd year on the job. This is the season that U of L faithful should start to see more success on the field from Kragthorpe's team. The Cardinals offense should be a strength of the team, and if they get things going then watch out for the Cards in 2009.

2008 Louisville Football Preview:
Head Coach: Steve Kragthorpe
The University of Louisville Cardinals football program has been a rising star in the NCAA for the last ten years. Their 2006 season ended with a 12-1 record, a Big East title, and a trip to the BCS Orange Bowl. The team returned many of its starters but would lose its head coach Bobby Petrino to the Atlanta Falcons after the Orange Bowl game. The 2007 Cardinals struggled to repeat its success of 2006. The coming season should be an interesting one as Louisville fans fill Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium to see whether their team can regain the Big East Championship and dream to compete for a national title.
