LSU Tigers Football Season Preview History

2011 Louisiana State University Football Preview:
Down in the Bayou, the LSU Tigers are looking to keep that streak of SEC West teams winning the BCS championship going. It kicked it off in 2008 (followed by Alabama and Auburn), and head coach Les Miles is looking to chew up the SEC again with established starters.

Jordan Jefferson is projected to be the starter, even if he’s getting heat from sophomore Zach Mettenberger, who led his JuCo team to its national championship. Sophomore Spencer Ware is looking to improve on his true freshman year, and will be looking to share time with another transfer, sophomore Alfred Blue, who is coming in from Mississippi State. On the wings, juniors Ruben Randle and Russell Shepard will look to continue their solid play, especially against the big time programs they are always facing.

It’s going to be hard to determine who’s on offense or defense, because the D-line of the Tigers are so quick that it could go either way. Sophomore defensive ends Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery bring the pain like few others, and will join a linebacking corps that will send seniors Ryan Baker and Stefoin Francois all over the field. Whatever they don’t get to, sophomore corner Tyrann Mathieu will be able to as one of the fastest covers in the SEC, and possibly the nation.

2010 Louisiana State University Football Preview:
Although LSU finished with a 9-4 record last year, narrowly losing to Penn State in the Capital One Bowl, the Tigers offense was among the worst in the SEC. The success of this team in 2010 is largely dependent on whether coach Les Miles can get his offense to improve on last year's production.

The biggest question mark on the LSU offense is at quarterback. Juniors Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee each split time in 2009, but there is no definitive starter as of yet. Whoever gets the nod will be playing behind an offensive line that returns only two starters from last year's squad. At the skill positions, the Tigers will look to receivers senior Terrance Toliver and sophomore Russell Shepard.

One area LSU will be looking to improve on from last year will be their pass rush, as the Tiger defense only managed a meager 21 sacks. Leading the charge will be senior linebacker Kelvin Sheppard and senior defensive tackle Pep Levingston. The secondary should be strong, as juniors Patrick Peterson and Brandon Taylor are among the best in country at their position.

LSU certainly does not have the experience to contend for a national championship this year, and tough games at Florida and at Auburn may find them with similar results to last year.

2009 Louisiana State University Football Preview:
Head Coach: Les Miles
LSU Head Coach Les Miles returns a very talented lineup of players in 2009, which should once again insure the Tigers are competing for the National Championship. If Miles can stabilize the Tigers quarterback situation then LSU might be the favorite to win the SEC. And winning the SEC is a task that is nearly equal to winning the college football National Championship. LSU's first victory of the year in 2009 will be the 701st victory of all-time for this rich & storied program. So expect LSU to get off to a fast start and never look back in 2009.

2008 Louisiana State University Football Preview:
Head Coach: Les Miles
The reigning 2007 National Champions, the LSU Tigers, have plenty to prove in the 2008 season. Head Coach Les Miles and his boys will be looking to maintain their hold on the SEC, but with one major shortfall: LSU will have to rely on a steady and heavy running game, as the quarterback need the first few games of the season to warm up their offense. On the other hand, the defense for the 2008 Tigers will be mixed with starters and newbies, but is sure to be solid. You can count on teams to put the pressure on LSU to throw the ball this season, possibly causing a bit of a headache for the Tigers.

The talent returning to the team is going to make this year's LSU Tigers a powerful force, but they are going to have pressure on them to perform. Get out and root for your Tigers, and grab a ticket to any one of LSU's home games this season.
