Miami Hurricanes Bowl Game Tickets Information

In the 1980’s the Hurricanes became a bowl game staple. Miami came out of obscurity and took college football by storm for more than a decade. They played in three Orange Bowls, two Sugar Bowls, and two Fiesta Bowls. Most notably they won the 1983 National Championship in the Orange Bowl when they defeated the favored Nebraska Cornhuskers. On the final play of the game Nebraska decided to go for a 2 point conversion for the win. Miami deflected the pass and launched the Hurricanes onto an elite level. Howard Schnellenberger had engineered the turnaround at Miami and came through on his promise to win a National Championship within his first five seasons as head coach. After the Orange Bowl win, Schnellenberger would depart and head to the USFL. His replacement would be one Jimmy Johnson.

Under Johnson the Miami brand would reach new heights. They would claim the 1987 National Championship, again at in the Orange Bowl, over Oklahoma. Some had called it the “Game of the Century” as both teams were undefeated as the entered the Orange Bowl as #1 and #2 in the polls. During Jimmy Johnson’s tenure the Hurricanes would routinely overpower traditional powers like Notre Dame and Florida. After Johnson left to coach the Dallas Cowboys, Miami would go on to win two more National Championships with Dennis Erickson as coach in 1989 and 1991.

Miami would have some down years in the mid 1990’s but would regain national acclaim in 2001 when they would roll over #2 ranked Nebraska in the Rose Bowl to be crowned national champions. This team is widely considered one of the greatest in college football history, sending a staggering 38 players into the NFL with 17 of those being first round picks. Miami would play in the 2002 National Championship game the next year but would ultimately fall to Ohio State.
