McNeese State Cowboys Rivals

McNeese State vs. Lamar

Located close to the south Texas and Louisiana borders, McNeese State and Lamar have one of the most interesting rivalries in the Southland Conference. Known as the Battle of the Border, this matchup dates back to 1955. The series was played consistently until 1989 and was briefly suspended while the Cardinals took a hiatus from the sport. The matchup resumed in 2010 and has the Southland Conference buzzing with excitement, making it one of the rivalries to keep an eye on as it continues to build.

McNeese State vs. Louisiana Lafayette

Known as the Cajun Crown, this is one of the traditional rivalries in the State of Louisiana. The series has been played over 35 times since 1951, with the Cowboys holding a slight advantage in wins. The matchup was held annually from 1951 to 1986 but is now played infrequently due to ULL moving to the FBS division. Although it is no longer an annual event, the schools still compete for the best players in Louisiana and whenever the game is on the schedule, the inner-state buzz and excitement remains.
