Ole Miss first began playing football around 1890. The Rebels achieved their first great success under head coach John Vaught. Vaught would win 6 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championships and 3 national titles and coach 26 All-Americans including legendary quarterback Archie Manning. Tommy Tuberville would help bring the Rebels out of a slump and back to prominence in the 1990’s, but left the program at the height of its success to coach at rival Auburn. Some of the great players to wear the crimson and blue include Archie Manning, Ely Manning, Frank Kinnard, and Deuce McAllister. 2014 Rebels Season Preview
The Ole Miss Rebels are coming off a season that saw them make a bowl game for the first time since 2009 and win seven games after only winning two in 2011. Hugh Freeze enters his second season with the Rebels as he continues to rebuild a program that lost 14 straight SEC games before he took over. Ole Miss returns quarterback Bo Wallace who nearly threw for 3,000 yards during his sophomore season. The star of the offense, however, is wide receiver Donte Moncrief. The junior is coming off a season where he tied the school record with ten touchdown grabs on 66 catches for 979 yards.
On defense, sophomore linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche returns after leading the team with 82 tackles to go along with three sacks and three picks. The Rebels begin their season with a road trip to Vanderbilt for a nationally televised contest. Freeze’s squad will also travel to Texas A&M and Alabama and host LSU and Missouri as Freeze hopes 2013 will be another stepping stone to becoming a force again in the SEC.

Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State
The 10th longest uninterrupted team rivalry in the U.S. is the battle for the golden egg. The “Egg Bowl” as it is known, was first played in 1901. It is still the game that determines supremacy in college football, well at least supremacy in the state of Mississippi.
Ole Miss vs. LSU
Over the years this SEC rivalry has had conference title as well as national title implications, and the Magnolia Bowl continues to be a big one on the schedule for both schools. Between the ’59 Halloween Night Run and the 2009 inexplicable clock management issues, there’s enough history in this matchup to write a book about.
Ole Miss vs. Arkansas
They’ve played against each other twice in the Sugar Bowl and played in a record 7-overtime game in 2001, and that’s just part of the great rivalry between the Razorback and the Rebels. While Arkansas has the upper hand all-time and at one point they stole Ole Miss’s head coach, the Rebels are looking to get back at the state to the north very soon.
Ole Miss Rebels in the BCS National Championship, Bowl Games, and SEC Championship
The Rebels have been very successful in bowl games in recent history, winning their last five and nine of their last 10, but they have not won a conference title since 1963 and fans are anxious for the blue and crimson to return to a SEC Conference Championship Game. Ticketcity offers tickets to all college football bowl games and the SEC Championship Game.

Is the Grove the best place to tailgate in college football?
The Grove is the legendary tailgate area at Ole Miss Rebels home games. Located just steps from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, the ten acre area fills up on gameday with huge crowds that take tailgating to another level. Red and blue tents stretch as far as the eye can see and everyone is sipping on their favorite drink. Tailgates with white table clothes, silverware and southern fried chicken are the norm. Ole Miss fans will do their “hotty toddy” chant throughout the afternoon until kickoff.
Where are the best places to eat in Oxford on Ole Miss game weekends?
Besides the Grove for tailgating, check out the Square in downtown Oxford. Home to an assortment of bars and restaurants, it is the entertainment district on Friday night before a Rebels home game. City Grocery is the top spot to eat in Oxford and the Library is the favorite local bar.
