The 2009 Washington Huskies football season should be an exciting one for fans of the purple and gold. New Head Coach Steve Sarkisian will be leading the Huskies in his first season at Udub. The good news is that Sarkisian is a talented offensive coach and knows the Pac-10 after spending the previous few years coaching down the coast at USC. The even better news is that it is very unlikely that Washington has another season as dismal as their 2008 campaign, when the Huskies finished 0-12. So hope springs eternal in Seattle, where Washington should be on the rebound. If Pac-10 opponents are not careful, they could wind up surprised by this underdog UW team in 2009.

The Washington Huskies first fielded a football team in 1889. In the early 1900's the Huskies had remarkable success under head coach Gil Dobie, who managed to coach the team to incredible 68 straight wins. Washington has made 30 bowl game appearances, won 2 national championships, and 15 conference titles. In one of college football's most memorable games, the Huskies played Oklahoma in the 1985 Orange Bowl. The Sooner Schooner wagon was accidentally driven on the field after a penalty nullified an OU field goal attempt. The ensuing attempt was blocked, shifting momentum to Washington who would win the game 28-17.
The Huskies play their home games at Husky Stadium in Seattle, Washington. The stadium is the largest in the Pacific Northwest, holding 72,500 spectators.
