Here’s the Cal Marching Band performing their school fight song “The Big C” at the TicketCity Battle by the Bay (Fresno State Bulldogs vs. Cal Bears) on September 3rd, 2011. This was the first iteration of the TicketCity college match-up which Cal won 36-21 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, CA.

The University of California at Berkeley first began plying football in 1886. The Golden Bears would see great success in the 1920's and 1930's when they would win numerous Pacific Coast Conference titles and 2 national championships. After more success in the '40s and '50s under coach Pappy Waldorf, the school's football program would slip into obscurity until the 1990's, and even more so under Tedford's leadership. Some of the great players to wear the blue and gold include Steve Bartkowski, Tony Gonzalez, and Todd Steussie.
The California Golden Bears play their home game at California Memorial Stadium, one of the most picturesque venues in all of college sports. Opened in 1921, and holding over 73,000, the stadium sits directly on top of a fault, and visitors can see how the structure is slowly being pulled apart, as engineers take counteractive measures. California Memorial has seen some crazy plays in its history. Who can forget Roy “Wrong Way” Riegels and his famous fumble recovery and run to the wrong end zone at the Rose Bowl in 1929, or “the Play” in 1982 when the Golden Bears made 5 lateral passes with four seconds left against Stanford to win the game as fans rushed the field?
