2008 Ole Miss Football Preview:
The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) Rebels football program is one of the most historic in the South and the most successful in all of college football. After 3 seasons marked by losing records and the inability of top recruits to qualify to play by NCAA rules, the firing of Ed Orgeron, and the hiring of Arkansas’ very successful head coach Houston Nutt, the Rebels look poised to make a big impact in the SEC and beyond this season.Vaught-Hemingway is a notoriously loud and raucous stadium, and should be even more so with all the hope and excitement surrounding this new era in Ole Miss football.
Head Coach Houston Nutt will make his debut in Mississippi this season, as the 2008 Ole Miss Rebels hit the scene. Nutt, who transferred from Arkansas and led the Razorback to an SEC championship game in 2006, is expected to turn this team inside-out. With the help of Jevan Snead, a quarterback transfer from the University of Texas who was sidelined in favor of Colt McCoy, this Rebel team aims to be a contender in the SEC this season. However, this will require that the Rebel defense steps up the play to a higher level than we have seen in previous seasons.
With Snead and Nutt in place, this Rebel team will not be shut out this season. The Rebels will have to make some major adjustments in both offense and defense, but Nutt is going to make some big changes that should alleviate any fear of consistent losing seasons in the future. In two years, this team is going to be a big contender in the SEC. Get out there and give these toughening Rebels a yell!
