2011 SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Teams:
LSU Tigers (West) vs. Georgia Bulldogs (East)
Date: December 3, 2011
Location: Atlanta, GA
Stadium: Georgia Dome

The SEC Championship will be fought like cats and dogs on December 3rd at the Georgia Dome. That’s because the West-winning LSU Tigers (12-0, 8-0 Conference), the nation’s top team, will be looking to secure its number one ranking against the upstart Georgia Bulldogs (10-2, 7-1), who captured the Eastern conference in 2011.

Thanks to the BCS computers, LSU is almost assured a spot in this year’s National Championship Game in New Orleans’ Sugar Bowl. That’s thanks to an unblemished regular-season record which, in the process, captured them their fourth-straight SEC West crown. Also helping their cause is the fact the Les Miles-led Tigers beat three teams that were, at the time, nationally ranked in the top-3, something that hasn’t happened in more than 60 years.

While LSU started off the season with a bang by beating Oregon, the Bulldogs went the opposite way, dropping their first two games. However, head coach Mark Richt righted the ship (and quelled the calls for his job) and reeled off 10-straight wins, the third-longest winning streak in the country. One of the team’s early-season issues—its youth—is what may come back to make them one of the top teams in the nation again next year. However, sophomore quarterback Aaron Murray and two of the SEC’s top freshmen—back Isaiah Crowell and receiver Malcolm Mitchell—will look to further make their mark this year by knocking off the nation’s top cat in the SEC Championship game.

SEC Championship Game History
The SEC Championship is one of the premier events in college football. Fans from the SEC will tell you that it is considered almost as great an accomplishment to win an SEC Championship, as it is to win a National Championship. The reason is that the Southeastern Conference is stacked with great football teams (and looking to expand with more, like the up-in-the-air transfer of Texas A&M in 2012). So if you were good enough to get to the top of the heap in the SEC, then you are one of the elite teams in all of NCAA football.

Attending the SEC Championship game is a special experience that is about football, food, fun and culture. The fans of the SEC teams playing provide a unique atmosphere, as each group has their own traditions they bring to the game. From the Tennessee fans singing "Rocky Top", to the Ole Miss fans saying "Hotty Toddy", to the LSU fans painting "Geaux Tigers" and the Florida fans doing the Gator chomp. The pageantry at the SEC Championship game is everywhere.

And that passion from the SEC fans overflows on to the football field, where some great games have been played. The SEC Championship game was first played in 1992, when Florida defeated Alabama. That first game was held at Legion Field. Since then the most common location for the SEC Championship game has been the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Where every year more than 70,000 passionate fans attend the SEC Championship Game. So buy SEC Championship game tickets and go experience the game for yourself.
