Virginia Cavaliers Rivals

Virginia vs. Virginia Tech

Dating all the way back to 1895, this Old Dominion rivalry is the biggest all-Virginia rivalry game in college football. The two schools battle for the right to take the “Commonwealth Cup” back to their campus. The competition between the two schools is so fierce, that the week before the game is often referred to as “Hate Week,” with fans from both schools taking cracks at the other. All in all this is a great example of why inner-state rivalries are so much fun.

Virginia vs. North Carolina

Known as “The South’s Oldest Rivalry,” this game was first played in 1892, and has been played annually since 1919. Often touted as a “Gentleman’s Rivalry,” this game is known for class and sportsmanship. But don’t let that fool you, the competition on the field is fierce, with home field advantage proving to be an immense factor for both schools. This matchup is currently the 4th oldest among major college football programs, and all the history, class, and great competition make this one of the best rivalries in the ACC.

What is the best Virginia rivalry game during the season?

The rivalry with North Carolina is one of the best matchups on the East Coast. It is not often that two teams meet annually for over 90 years, and in this case, makes the game all the more intriguing. The usual class of both fan bases, and desire to dominate the region, division, and conference give this game everything it needs to be great each and every year.

What is the best gameday tradition at a Cavaliers home game?

One of the more unique traditions at Virginia is the dress code that students and alumni have for games. Girls often wear sundresses and guys wear shirts and ties. UVA Review :) University of Virginia's football team is an outstanding hard-working team that should be appreicated not for how many games they have won, but for their ambition to never give up, support each other and the university, and striving to reach the potential that they, and we, know they have!
