In recent times, the West Virginia Mountaineers football program has proven itself to be a top 25 contender every year. Playing as an independent for most of its history, the West Virginia Mountaineers play in the Big East today, and have managed to win many conference titles (SEC Conference and Big East). Having had only one chance at a National Championship, in 1988, West Virginia has the best record in college football for a team that hasn't won a national title. A West Virginia Mountaineers game at Mountaineer Field in Morgantown, West Virginia is a college football tradition you'll never forget. 2015 West Virginia Season Preview
The Mountaineers success in 2014 will lay heavily on the shoulders of senior quarterback Clint Trickett. Trickett amassed over 1,500 yards passing in 2013, and looks to try and double those numbers for his senior year. The offense lost outstanding running back Charles Sims to the NFL draft, and will now lean even more heavily on the passing game. West Virginia was not interested in inching into the season as they scheduled a neutral site game against Alabama in week 1. West Virginia will look for the defense to be much improved from a year ago, and for the offense to return to 2012 form. If the Mountaineers can put both of those things together, they should find themselves near the top of the Big 12 standings.

Only 70 miles are between the two universities but they developed a fierce rivalry in the late 19th century that is still seen today.
