It is tough to pinpoint the musical stylings of Edie Brickell. The talented singer-songwriter has covered a lot of ground in her years in the business, and whether performing as a member of Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians or as a solo artist, the songstress has pleased audiences for more than 20 years with her charming vocals and thoughtful lyrics.

Though she became a famous singer, Brickell's career as a singer began unexpectedly. As a student at Southern Methodist University, she got on stage at a local bar to sing along with the band performing. The match was such a good one that she became the group's leading singer, and Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians was formed.

It was not long before the band was making waves across the United States. In 1988, they released their debut album, Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars, which was a critical and commercial hit. The record managed to break into the top five on the Billboard 200 charts, and the "What I Am" was a top 10 hit.

Despite the fact the group's debut was so popular, their follow up, 1990's Ghost of a Dog, did not perform as well, and Brickell decided it was time to embark on a solo career. She released her debut album, Picture Perfect, in 1994. The record was met with little fanfare but featured a number of solid tracks including "Lost in a Moment" and "When the Lights Go Down."

After he solo debut, Brickell seemingly disappeared from the music scene. However, she reappeared in 2003 with a new album, Volcano. The record performed better than her first effort was was well-received by critics. Then, after more than 15 years apart, she reunited with her former bandmates in 2006 to release Stranger Things. The record hearkened back to their earlier days and was a favorite among reviewers. While the reunion was a successful one, it was short-lived as Brickell soon embarked on new project - The Heavy Circles.

The new band put out their self-titled debut album in 2008 along with an iTunes-only download for the single "Hands On." The group did not last long and Brickell was on to other things by 2010 when she founded The Gaddabouts with several other artists. Though career path has changed over the years, Brickell has remained a powerful force in the music industry.
