Fall Out Boy is what you get when you ask your audience to name the band. Patrick Stump, Peter Wentz, and Joe Trohman ended their second show as a nameless act with that very invitation to those in attendance. One call out to a minor character from The Simpsons later, the band had their name. It would be a few years before the name transitioned from Simpsons trivia to the households of rock fans across the nation.

The band's first LP arrived in 2003, though without their approval or consent. Their label at the time, Uprising Records, released the LP Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girlfriend shortly after its rushed completion. The band left the label shortly afterwards. Due to the controversy, some consider the follow up, Take This To Your Grave, the first "official" Fall Out Boy release. It came out a short 3 months later under the indie label Fueled By Ramen.

Both these efforts failed to chart, though they had brought the band favorable attention and a solid following which grew as they toured. The creation of their major label debut album, From Under the Cork Tree, was a trying time for lyricist Pete Wentz. Suffering severe anxiety over the prospect of creating a failure, Wentz survived a suicide attempt and subsequently entered therapy. Once complete, the band finished recording the album and released it in 2005.

Under the Cork Tree, powered by two Top 10 hits, peaked at #9 on the Billboard 200 and would eventually be certified double Platinum. The band became a stable of MTV's TRL and went out on the Black Clouds and Underdogs tour in support of the album. While touring they wrote much of what would become the follow-up to this breakthrough. After a short vacation following the tour, Fall Out Boy returned to the studio to record 2007's Infinity on High.

The quick turn round helped propel Infinity on High to the top of the charts. The album introduced some diversity to a sound that had previously been some flavor of "punk", and audiences reacted favorably. Incorporating a significant funk sound, the single "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" peaked at #2 in the US. A second successful single, "Thnks fr th Mmrs" incorporated an alternative sound, something the band would continue to expand with future releases.

Fall Out Boy's last album before a 3 year hiatus continued to showcase their evolution as band. Folie à Deux arrived in 2008 and continued the trend towards alternative and away from punk. While it did not enjoy the same success on the charts as previous efforts, it put a Gold record on the wall for the band. 2010 saw the band going their separate ways to pursue solo projects.

In 2013 Fall Out Boy returned with a new album and tour. Save Rock and Roll showcases another evolutionary step for the former hard-core punk rockers. With Fall Out Boy back in business and touring, fans have the opportunity to hear one of the unique voices of rock as they play venues the world over. Don't miss them went they rock an arena near you.
