Smashing Pumpkins are one of the most influential alternative rock bands of all time. The band formed in Chicago in 1988, and their current lineup includes Billy Corgan (guitar/vocals), Jimmy Chamberlain (drums), Jeff Schroeder (guitar/vocals), Ginger Reyes (bass/vocals), and Lisa Harriton (keys/vocals). Smashing Pumpkins gained underground notoriety with their first album, Gish (1991), and then broke out as a mainstream success with Siamese Dream (1993). The band was a part of the alternative rock and grunge movements of the 1990’s but stood out by blending a variety of musical styles including psychedelic rock, metal, and later electronic music. Infighting and drug abuse problems created drama within that band that led to breakups, lineup changes, solo projects, and finally a reunion. Smashing Pumpkins has consistently packed venues in support of their album, Zeitgeist (2007).
Smashing Pumpkins’ sound uniquely blends the stadium rock guitar approach of bands like Queen with the more hypnotic tendencies of shoegaze bands like My Bloody Valentine. The result is a massive musical experience, especially with the keyboard-based electronica added later in the band’s career. Attend a Smashing Pumpkins concert and you’ll be happily overwhelmed by a wave of sound that travels through their rich back-catalogue of songs to the band’s exciting new material. Buy Smashing Pumpkins tickets and you’ll get to experience seeing and hearing a legendary band still hard at work.
