The Stone Temple Pilots (STP) emerged during the grunge-filled music scene of the early 1990s, and although their sound was originally compared to bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam, they have since made a name for themselves due to their changing styles and loyal fan base.

STP lead singer Scott Weiland met bassist Robert DeLeo at a Black Flag concert in 1986, and soon afterward began living together in an apartment in Long Beach, California. Later, the pair formed a band with DeLeo's brother Dean on guitar and drummer Eric Kretz. The quartet released their first demo tape in 1990, and would later begin building a fan base in the San Diego area.

After honing their skills in San Diego, the band signed with Atlantic Records and released their first studio album, Core, in 1992. The album remains their highest selling album to this day, and reached number three on the Billboard 200 charts. While the release earned mixed reviews, it had some of STP's most famous songs, including "Plush," which gave the band the 1994 Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. In addition to "Plush," "Wicked Garden" and "Creep" were also popular tracks from the album. The band also appealed to listeners, as a 1994 poll by Rolling Stone found that most readers named them Best New Band.

The band's second album, Purple, was released in the summer of 1994, and debuted at number one. The release included several more well known hits, including "Interstate Love Song" and "Vasoline," both of which enjoyed successful runs up the charts and remain popular today.

However, later that year the band temporarily broke up in the wake up Weiland's legal troubles. They got back together in 1995 to reveal their third album Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop, which was released in the spring of 1996. While it was popular among fans, it failed to have the success of their previous two endeavors, and due to more personal troubles the band would not release another album until 1999 with No. 4. The album's first single, "Sour Girl," became one of the of the band's most popular hits. Their fifth album was released in 2001, but the group broke up again in 2002.

STP reunited in 2008, and embarked on a six month reunion tour later that year. They remain active, and consistently perform, giving fans the shows they have been used to for the last 20 years.

JETSTREAM ROCKS OUT AUSTIN TEXAS!! I went to the Stone Temple Pilots show in Austin, texas last night. They were on a mission to rock hard and fast. The band was tight and right on target. The crowd was totally into the show too. The ACL Moody Theatre is a great venue. Also, the opening band from Los Angeles, "Jetstream," rocked the house too. Check them out. You will not be disappointed! August 17, 2011
Stone Temple Pilots The Stone Temple Pilots showed at this concert that they are not some washed-up band from the 90’s embarking on a reunion tour for some extra cash. They are still rocking as hard as ever and delivering new songs that sound as if could have been released during the band’s heyday. Lead singer Scott Weiland has had his share of problems with both drugs and his band mates in the past. However, he is still one of the most charismatic frontmen in all of rock when he has his act together. He certainly had his act together at this show. Weiland kept the crowd engaged with his larger than life stage presence still strong voice. The band moved seamlessly between their biggest hits and a few choices from their latest self-titled album. While newer songs such as “Between the Lines” certainly did not bog down the concert, they were not what the fans came out to hear. The band was all too happy to oblige the crowd by playing many of its biggest hits from its earliest albums. The Stone Temple Pilots put on a great show that gave almost all of its fans something to be happy about. September 28, 2010
