The band consists of 4 members who all met while they were attending Columbia University in New York City. After they graduated, and as they held down full-time jobs, they put together their first (self titled) album.
Vampire Weekend's musical influences are African Pop music combined with Indie Rock. Their melodic songs like "Walcott" and "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" beautifully infuse these two music types together. It is that style of music that has appealed to listeners of all ages, from teenagers to middle-age adults, the music of Vampire Weekend is popular with all listeners.
