The story of working hard and paying dues and finally hitting it big in Nashville is a familiar one for a reason, it does happen. Luke Bryan got his first guitar at the age of 14, eventually planning on that move to Nashville. Tradegy struck, and Bryan would not make to Music City as quickly as he planned. After a detour through Georgia Southern University, he made it to Nashville in 2001.
That's when the hard work began. Paying off would take a few years. Eventually he would be seen doing a club gig and be signed to Capitol Records. His first single would drop in 2007, six years after he arrived and began chasing his dream in earnest. That single, "All My Friends Say," reached #5 on the US Country charts, signaling the arrival of a new country star.
"All My Friends Say" would end up on his debut album, I'll Stay Me. The album enjoyed similar success, peaking at #2 on the US Country charts and earning Bryan a large following. As part of a new generation of country stars, Bryan followed up I'll Stay Me with an iTunes exclusive EP called Spring Break With All My Friends.
Bryan didn't suffer any sophomore curse. His second album, Doin' My Thing, enjoyed similar chart success to his first, as well as earning him his first Gold album. Doin' My Thing also provided Bryan with two #1 hits: "Rain Is a Good Thing" and "Someone Else Calling You Baby." The uptempo "Rain" is an ode to the precipitation's part in growing corn that ends up becoming whiskey.
The Academy of Country Music Awards honored Bryan in 2010 with both the "Top New Solo Vocalist" and "Top New Artist Awards," validating his status as one of country music's brightest new stars.
In 2011 Bryan released Tailgates & Tanlines. Building on the success of his previous two albums, this one debuted at #1 on the US Country Albums chart. Bryan continues the hard work that earned his success in country music, touring regularly to bring his music to fans around the country.
