There are few musicians on the music scene who have enjoyed such stellar success as Toby Keith, who has 40 million album sales worldwide to his credit, a slew of No. 1 albums and more sponsorships and endorsements than an entertainer could dream of. Keith, born Toby Keith Covel, grew up in Oklahoma City and was influenced by the many country musicians who played at his grandmother's supper club. After a series of career changes, Keith decided to focus his career on music, and in 1993, he released his self-titled debut album, which went platinum.
From the outset of his appearance on the music scene, Toby Keith was an instant hit and sold millions of records thanks to his hits "Who's That Man" and "Me Too," which appeared on his albums Boomtown and Blue Moon. While Keith's albums sold consistently throughout the 1990s, it was the explosion of popularity in country music during the 2000s that saw his star soar in the genre.
In 2001, Keith scored his first No. 1 album on the U.S. country charts, Pull My Chain, which was followed by Unleashed and Shock'n Y'all, which hit the top of both the country and pop music charts for the first time. Keith's music was especially popular with American veterans in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the popularity of the single "American Soldier" is testament to that fact. Additionally, Keith has been a consistent entertainer on USO shows in the Middle East and has been one of the troops' most vocal supporters.
After the release of Shock'n Y'all in 2003, Keith released eight studio albums over the course of the next decade, each of which finished in the Top 3 on the U.S. country charts. One thing's for sure, when there's a new Toby Keith album on the horizon, there will certainly be strong sales and a major tour to follow. With Keith's amazing ability to produce and record an album seemingly every year, fans won't have to wait long to see what he'll churn out next.
