ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL
With a history spanning more than a decade, the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Florida, is always circled on the calendars of electronic music fans. The annual event attracts tens of thousands of fans each year and has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception. Historically, the festival would coincide with the annual Winter Music Conference, a week-long convention aimed at DJs, promoters, record label representatives and many more. However, the overwhelming growth of the Ultra Music Festival has forced planners to stretch it from a one-, to a two- and now a three-day festival dedicated to electronic music and musicians from other genres that blend these elements into their art.
As if being in the beautiful locale of Miami wasn't enough, the Ultra Music Festival is more than just a huge concert. The event is held at Miami's oceanfront Bayfront Park, and dozens of stages are set up each year to accommodate a bevy of performers. The surrounding area is filled with countless food and beverage booths open day and night, as well as a sprawling outdoor vending area with Ultra Music Festival merchandise and private vendors.
Over the years, Ultra Music Festival has grown from its electronic music roots to include a smattering of artists and bands from pop, hip-hop and rock. While the early years of the festival included such electronica mainstays like the Chemical Brothers, Rabbit in the Moon, Tiesto, DJ Craze and many others, more mainstream groups like Moby, The Killers and Rihanna have participated recently. In many ways, the Ultra Music Festival has become one of the most sought-after tickets in town each year, as it is one of the only places in the world to hear so much electronic music talent in one place.
In 2010, the Ultra Music Festival smashed a Miami city concert attendance record (which was set by a previous Ultra Music Festival) when it broke through 100,000 attendees for the first time. While the festival is boosted by now offering more performers than ever before, the event's growth is indicative of the growing interest in electronic music throughout the country. With big time acts like David Guetta, Avicii, Fatboy Slim, Skrillex and Miike Snow on the most recent festival lineup, the event's selection of artists seems to get better each year. The Ultra Music Festival is one of the biggest musical events in the country, and is going strong more than a decade since it began.
