Mötley Crüe is one of the seminal hard rock bands from the ’80s, whether it be glam or not. With a hard-living lifestyle that perfectly matched with their fast-paced music, the quartet is one of the most recognizable bands in the history of Rock and Roll, and their legend has only continued to grow since their heyday.

Formed in 1981, the band's original line up of drummer Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars persists to this day. After their debut album failed to gain much traction, the group fared much better throughout the rest of the decade. Their proflific run began in 1983 with Shout at the Devil, which is often priased for being one of the band's heaviest sounding records. Thanks to songs including the title track "Looks that Kill," and "Too Young to Fall in Love" were all huge hits and put Mötley Crüe on the map.

Encouraged by the immesnse success of their sophomore album, Mötley Crüe typified the excess-driven lifestyle practiced by many of the superstars of the '80s. Whether it be in the form of girls, partying or cars, the band made no secret about their love for decadence. It was this reckless abandon that likely made them so popular. Despite various run-ins with the law, they remained atop the music world by the end of the decade thanks to the 1987 album Girls, Girls, Girls and the 1989 follow up Dr. Feelgood which, along with being the band's best-selling album, is widely considered to be one of their best musical efforts.

Like most bands of their ilk, Mötley Crüe suffered as a result of the grunge explosion in the early '90s but managed to come out the other end still a relevant band in the eyes of many music fans. Much like bands such as Aerosmith - whom the toured with in 2006 - and U2, Mötley Crüe has managed to make the successful transition from '80s era glam rock to 21st century mainstream.

Three decades after their formation, Mötley Crüe remains one of the most influential bands in recent memories. Acts such as Papa Roach, Korn, Linkin Park and Nine Inch Nails have all cited Lee, Sixx, Niel and Mars as one of the driving forces behind their music.

HOLY FREAKING COW!!!!!!!!!!!! My son and I attended last night's Motley Crue/Poison show last night in Dallas. I had never seen Poison live before. They were amazing and sound just as good as ever. Bret's voice was in fine form and CC's axe-playing was incredible. The other two guys - Rikki & Bobby - were good, too. I have seen Motley Crue before. It was the anniversary tour for Dr. Feelgood a couple of years ago. They were good on that tour, and it lived up to the concert videos I had watched before. Last night's show, however, mind-blowingly freaking awesome! Vince was hitting notes I had not heard him hit in a long time. He looked trim and great. Of course, Nikki Sixx is always so cool and his bass thundered throughout their set. Mick Mars was looking really good last night and pacing the stage like caged lion. It was nice to him look more like his old self. Of course, his playing definitely has not suffered in the least. His virtuoso chops always blow my mind. Undoubtedly, though, the star of the night just had to be Tommy Lee. Mind you, I am kind of ambivalent about Tommy, but he blew my mind last night! His drum kit was set up on a super loop rollercoaster contraption for his drum solo. I don't think the audience realized what he was doing at first...LOL! Leave it to Tommy to pull a stunt like that! At one point, he and his kit were completely upside down and he was still rocking. All in all, it was much better than the show I saw a couple of years ago. You definitely have to go see them!
