MAROON 5 EXPERIENCE:
Maroon 5 is an American pop-rock band with a distinctive soul influence that formed in Los Angeles, California in 2001. Three of the original members met in junior high school and formed a grunge rock band called Kara’s Flowers in the late ‘90s. Maroon 5 signed a record deal Reprise Records but was unable to find success. The band split up and the members went to college in different parts of the country. Adam Levine, the lead singer studied in New York where he was exposed to urban and hip hop music that greatly influenced his style of singing and song writing. Adopting the name Maroon 5, the band showcased in New York and L.A., signing an independent record deal with Octone Records along with a BMG publishing contract. Maroon 5 has recorded two studio albums and one live album. Their first album, Songs About Jane, had four singles reach the top 40 in the US, and the album itself made it into the top 5 in the UK and Australia. Maroon 5 spent the years after releasing its first album touring almost constantly. Their grueling schedule led to physical problems for the original drummer, and he eventually was forced to quit the band because of pain in his arms. Maroon 5 has managed to put a new twist on pop rock music with their incorporation of a soul influence. The band has been successful as both a touring band and album seller. Maroon 5’s videos have also become a staple on MTV and VH1. The band has even managed to cultivate controversy with their clever use of not quite explicit sexual imagery in videos, and with lyrics that border on offensive with being explicitly so. The band has won Billboard Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, Teen Choice Awards, and two Grammys.
