Other: Although Band of Horses was formed in Seattle, Wash., frontman Ben Bridwell relocated the group to his native South Carolina to be closer to his family and friends.

Band of Horses emerged out of the Northwest indie rock scene in 2004 after frontman Ben Bridwell and multi-instrumentalist Mat Brooke started the band after their former band, Carissa's Wierd, suffered from financial trouble and folded earlier that year. After opening up for prominent acts like Iron and Wine, Band of Horses attracted the attention of Sub Pop Records and was signed to a contract soon after.

After the well-received release of Tour EP in 2005, the group released its first full-length album in 2006, dubbed Everything All the Time. The record proved to be a surprising commercial success, buoyed by the single "The Funeral," which was featured on a number of television shows and video game soundtracks.

After Mat Brooke left the band shortly after the release of their first album, the group released its second album, Cease to Begin, in 2007. The record hit the top spot on Billboard's independent albums chart and climbed to No. 35 on the Billboard 200. The single "Is There a Ghost" became a modern rock hit and helped the group reach a much larger audience.

In 2010, Band of Horses released their most successful album to date, Infinite Arms, which was co-written by the group's new lineup of Bridwell, Creighton Barrett, Ryan Monroe, Tyler Ramsey and Bill Reynolds. The album was the first with Columbia Records and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album, as well as prominent spots on best album rankings for a number of publications.

For the group's fourth studio album, Band of Horses hired former The Who and The Rolling Stones producer Glyn Johns, who helped tap into the band's raw, live sound that helped them achieve fame from the get-go. The record Mirage Rock was preceded by the single "Knock, Knock," and became a major commercial success in late 2012.
