Other: Despite having sold over 100 million albums around the world, Bon Jovi has never had a No.1 single in the United Kingdom.
While musicians like Bruce Springsteen held sway throughout the 1970s, the 1980s were the domain of Jon Bon Jovi, whose meteoric rise to fame has made him one of the biggest pop stars in the world. With an uncanny style of metal-pop, catchy hooks and stadium-sized enthusiasm, Bon Jovi's self-titled debut album and follow-up record, 7800 Fahrenheit, showcased the group's metal roots and laid the groundwork for the band's evolution.
In 1986, Bon Jovi released their first No.1 album, Slippery When Wet, which sold more than 12 million copies and featured modern rock mainstays like "Wanted Dead or Alive," "Livin' On A Prayer" and "You Give Love A Bad Name." While the album was unabashedly un-metal compared to their early work, its combination of slick electric guitar riffs, soaring vocals and pop sensibilities dramatically expanded the group's audience and helped them achieve the superstardom they always craved.
Bon Jovi came back swinging in 1987 with the release of New Jersey, which boasted another five Top 10 hits. Jon Bon Jovi dropped a solo album in 1990 dubbed Blaze of Glory, which hit No. 3 on the charts and showcased his growth as an artist. Throughout the majority of the 1990s and 2000s, Bon Jovi released a series of critically acclaimed albums, with plenty of No.1 hits along the way. After a four-year hiatus, Bon Jovi returned in 2013 with his newest album, What About Now, which debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 and was his third straight No. 1 studio album.
