David Cassidy rose to fame in the 1970s playing the role of Keith Partridge on the sitcom The Partridge Family. Cassidy became one of the original teen idols throughout the decade, and remains a popular performer even 40 years after the show's debut.
Cassidy broke into the music scene after a song from the show, "I Think I Love You," became a considerable hit. In addition to being featured several times throughout the course of the show's first season, the song also began a steady rise through the charts, and hit number one in November 1970. Encouraged by the success of both the show and the song, Cassidy released his first full length album, Cherish, in 1972.
Soon after the release of Cherish, the album's title track became a top-10 hit, and Cassidy took off on tours across the United States. He became so popular throughout the course of the show that he immediately sold out concerts, including historic venues such as Madison Square Garden and the Astrodome.
By the time The Partridge Family ended in 1974, Cassidy had begun to grow weary of the extensive touring and instead focused on songwriting and recording. His fifth studio album, The Higher They Climb, was released in 1975, and began a string of critical success for the former television star. He soon followed it up with 1976's Home is Where the Heart Is and Getting It In The Street, also released that year.
After the mid-70's however, Cassidy put music on the back burner as he began to turn his attention toward acting once again. It would not be until 1985, when he released the album Romance, that he burst back on to the scene. The record featured "The Last Kiss," which was a moderate success in the United Kingdom and featured backing vocals from George Michael. He followed it up with a self-titled album in 1990 that inspired a U.S. tour in support of the release.
Since then, Cassidy has continued to act in various television shows, and has also created a slue of new music, including four more albums throughout the '90s. Though he will always be remembered as the fresh-faced crooner traveling the country on the iconic Partridge family bus, the 60-year-old Cassidy certainly has a lot more in store for fans.
