The 1970s were one of the best times for singer-songwriters. Acts such as James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel and David Nash all came to prominence during the period and left an indelible mark on the music world. Jackson Browne was of that ilk, and by way of compelling melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, the German-born singer became one of the most popular artists of the decade.
Browne began his career as a backup singer and songwriter for a number of established bands and performers, including Velvet Underground singer Nico. On her debut solo album, Chelsea Girl, Browne's lyrical acumen can be seen on what is considered one of her biggest hits, "These Days." Though he clearly had a penchant for composition, as evidenced by the fact his songs were recorded by the likes of Gregg Allman and the Eagles, it would be sometime before he became a popular artist in his own right.
Through his work with other artists, it became apparent that he was destined for greater things. In 1972 Browne released his self-titled debut album and his career began to take off. Thanks to songs such as "Doctor My Eyes" and "Songs for Adam," Browne began to establish a unique sound that would come to be a familiar part of popular music over the next several decades.
Though he has had a long and varied career, Jackson Browne is perhaps best known for his 1977 album Running on Empty. The title track, which some believes details the weary days spent on the road by musicians, is considered to be one of his most popular songs and enjoyed a bit of a resurgence when it was featured prominently in the 1994 film Forest Gump. Several years later, the single "Somebody's Baby" from the soundtrack of Fast Times at Ridgemont High, became his biggest hit in terms of chart performance as it peaked at number seven.
More recently, Browne may be best known for his fervent political activism, primarily his work to conserve the environment. Still, he has continued to record and release new music including the 2008 album Time the Conqueror, which was an ideal blend of both his political, and musical work. Though entering his mid-60s, Browne remains one of the most recognizable artists of the '70s and '80s, and continues to be a music icon.

Jackson Browne Dallas Just saw Jackson Browne and David Lindley in Dallas - great great concert - to see top shelf musicians not only nail the performance, but also clearly have fun doing it ... have always loved Jackson Browne's tightly orchestrated performances from the studio - and he reproduces it live with 100% the same level of excellence. Also great to see these long-touring musicians truly enjoying themselves doing the performance - laid back, funny, honest, etc. We stayed with about 12-15 other die-hard fans for 2 hours at the back gate to Verizon Center - at 1:30am Browne came out and spent 30-45 minutes talking quietly and connecting personally with everyone of us. Great to see the humility and personal character of a big star show up like this. Highly recommended! August 15, 2010
Great performance, great deal I had missed the opportunity to get Jackson Browne tix when they came out and really regretted it as I had been to several of his concerts before. But forged ahead and got the tix. Great performance by a legend. We had a mesmerizing eveing, especially as the seats were close and one could see every expression. Jackson still has it and definitely will go the next time. Had looked around and the best deal for pricing and shipping was here. Got other tix from here since and referring friends now. Great service over the phone, very courteous. Will turn here first from now on. September 14, 2010
Jackson Browne at the ACL Moody Theatre This is going to be a great show. I saw Jackson Browne waaaay back in 1989 in Dallas, Texas. I think it was the World in Motion tour. He played alot of songs from that record and a bunch from Lives in the Balnce too. What a great show. Now I am pumped to go see him again at the new ACL Moody Theatre in Austin, Texas. That venue is one of the best ever to see a live Rock and Roll show. Great acoustics, great sight lines, small and intimate. Show is on Friday, May 13, 2011. If you are a fan of Jackson Browne, You will not want to miss this concert! May 9, 2011
