Norah Jones is one of the most reputable and charismatic female performers of the last decade, comporting herself well throughout her entire career. Starting as a hard-working and ambitious girl who knew exactly what she wanted, Norah quickly launched her musical career after graduating college - proving that the American Dream is still alive and well.
Norah happens to be one of those fortunate individuals who was born to be a musician, as her Indian father, Ravi Shankar, played sitar and her mother, Sue Jones, worked as a concert producer. After being raised in Brooklyn, New York for six years, her parents separated and she moved to a Fort Worth, Texas suburb with her mother. Naturally guided by the family enthusiasm for the arts, Norah decided to attend a performing and visual arts high school. Here he participated in the school choir and band, where she played the alto saxophone. Inspired by American folk musicians like Billie Holiday and Willie Nelson, she began developing her own style at a young age. It was then that she became involved in art school during the summer and performing for contests. In 1996 and 1997, she won the “Best Jazz Vocalist” and “Best Original Composition” at the DownBeat Student Music Awards.
With these credentials, Norah majored in jazz piano at the University of North Texas, where she eventually met her future collaborators, including Jesse Harris. After graduation, she left for New York City in 1999 and asked Harris to start a band with her. This series of decisions immediately sent her life down a one-way road to success.
After launching her critically acclaimed first album, Come Away With Me, in 2002, Norah's career took off. The album eventually sold over 20 million copies, earning diamond certification and five Grammy awards. Her following albums were just as successful, as every one of them have obtained platinum status. In 2007, she even began to segue into an acting career, appearing in the film My Blueberry Nights. If there's one extraordinary young female artist out there who really earned her stripes, it's definitely Norah Jones.

Norah Jones 1 1
Norah Jones at Red Rocks Aug. 19th 2010 at Red Rocks Amphitheater was unforgettable. The Natural setting of this venue only added to the experience and over all sound quality. she played for roughly 3 1/2 hours of non stop talent. I sat in the 4th row and was only about 15 feet from her, it was heaven on Earth. If you can goto Red Rocks for a show, definitely do it at least once, and the same goes for Norah because she is truly talented I'll bet in any venue. September 9, 2010
