Peter Frampton became interested in music at a very young age. Such was his passion, he self-taught a number of instruments and found himself in a band at the age of ten called The Little Ravens. They once shared a bill with schoolmate David Bowie's band George and the Dragons. Frampton went on to become something of teen heartthrob, named "The Face of 1968" by a popular teen magazine, Rave.
Frampton went through a number of bands before finally becoming a solo act in the early 70s. Leaving his last band, Humble Pie, he recorded and released Wind of Change in 1972. The album was not a commercial success, despite featuring contributions from Ringo Starr and other big names on the UK music scene. The album earned favorable reviews and is still considered among his best.
Frampton's inability to gain traction on the charts continued until 1976. The string of commercially disappointing albums ended with Frampton Comes Alive! This album featured many of the hits that would make Frampton a staple of classic rock radio: "Baby, I Love Your Way", "Show Me the Way", and "Do You Feel Like We Do". The album reached #1 in the US, stayed there 10 weeks, and would quickly reach Platinum certification. It became the best selling album of 1976. As of 2011, Frampton Comes Alive! is 8x Platinum, having sold over 8 million copies in the US.
Frampton's star dimmed a bit after Frampton Comes Alive! While the follow-up to Frampton Comes Alive!, I'm in You, went Platinum, it was still considered a disappointment. While experiencing injury and personal tragedy, Frampton continued to make music throughout the 80s and 90s. He charted the hit "Lying" in 1986 off the Premonition album.
Fortune returned in 2007, when Frampton received his first Grammy win for the album Fingerprints. Winning Best Pop Instrumental Album, Fingerprints featured guests from Pearl Jam as well as Hank Marvin, the last surviving member of the band that backed him on Frampton Comes Alive!
Frampton continues to tour and make music, returning to the studio for Thank You Mr. Churchill in 2011. His shows feature his most famous hits, and a sampling of music from a career that has spanned 4 decades. Don't miss this rock legend when he performs near you.
