Sometimes it's hard to appreciate the influence that Rod Stewart has had on the music world. He's been around for so long and produced popular albums so consistently that it's easy to take his contributions for granted. However, the British-born Stewart is one of the best selling artists of all time, and his early work with several bands in the 1960s helped lay the groundwork for the punk rock explosion of the late '70s. Still, he will always be best remembered for his legendary solo career that continues to this day.
Though he put out a few solo record in the late '60s, it would not be until the 1971 release of Every Picture Tells a Story that Stewart hit it big. In addition to being a favorite among both critics and fans, the record contains several tracks that still receive considerable radio play more than 40 years later. "Maggie May" is considered to be one of his best songs, certainly one of his most recognizable, and even earned a spot on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
While his debut remains his most iconic record, that's not to say that Stewart slowed down after its release. Throughout the rest of the decade he released a string of popular hits including "You Wear It Well" and "Twistin' the Night Away," both of which quickly became fan favorites. He closed out the decade with the disco-infused track "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
It's hard to continue the level of success Stewart enjoyed throughout the 1970s, but he has managed to be remain a favorite among a wide breadth of fans, his raspy voice and indelible part of music history. Not only is he a well-liked by fans, but he is also a favorite of fellow recording artists as well, as evidenced by his work with such varied acts as Diana Ross, Elton John and Dolly Parton, who he won a Grammy with in 2004 for their version of "Baby, It's Cold Outside."
He may be approaching 70, but nothing about Rod Stewart indicates that he's slowing down anytime soon. Still a large draw for audiences across the globe, Stewart is going strong into his sixth decade of performing.

Rod over the years!!!! Amazing! I'm 42 and went to my first Rod Stewart concert when I was 14....... me and my best friend stood on our chairs and sang our hearts out from the back of the salt palace in salt lake city! The night rang with Wake up Maggie. ... Passion....young hearts be free tonight.....tonight's the night.... so very many hits! We were young and were so happy that my mom and her friend drove us 2-1/2 hours to see this amazing concert! They were waiting for us across the street in a hotel lobby, and after the concert while they were waiting, Mr. ROD Stewart himself strolled right into that lobby and said hello and signed autographs for them! ! Haha we paid to watched him for two hours far away and had a great time , they wait for us and enjoy intimate chats and photo ops for the nice price of $0 wow! But we all had a great time I'd love to repay my mom and take her to the concert this time!! He is an amazing artist and we have both enjoyed his talent for many many years! I grew up knowing all the words to his sings and now my kids have grown up loving and knowing his music too. One of their favs. ....do ya think I'm sexy, and. .hot legs!!
