For more than 30 years, Luis Miguel has been one of the biggest stars in the world of Latin Pop. Throughout his lengthy career, the multi-instrumentalist and singer has managed to crossover to mainstream music as well, earning five Grammys in addition to his four Latin Grammys. At just 41-years-old, there's no telling how far Miguel's career take him.
Miguel got his start at an extremely young age. In fact, he released his first album, Un Sol, in 1981 when he was just 11. While it was certainly not as successful as his later offerings, it got him started down the path to stardom in the Latin music world.
After a few more albums in the early '80s, Miguel came into his prime by the middle of the decade. His 1987 movie Soy Como Quiero Ser proved to be his first big hit, and featured a number of popular singles including "Cuando Calienta El Sol (Love Me With All Your Heart)" and his Spanish cover of the Dusty Springfield classic "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me." The album was so popular that it earned the 16-year-old Miguel at Latin Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album.
While he was primarily thought of as a teen sensation during his early days, by the 1990s Miguel was eager to shed his childlike persona and prove that he had grown up. He managed to just that with the album 20 Años. The record was a hit and was certified five times platinum.
As Miguel continued to mature, so did his music. Throughout the next decade he performed alongside the likes of Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Natalie Cole. By 2000 his name was among one of the best known in music, and the release of Amarte Es Un Place earned him Album of the Year at the Latin Grammys.
Though he has been performing for more than half his life, Miguel has not lost his passion for music. He continues to record new tracks and perform, and his 2010 self-titled album was met with critical acclaim and commercial success. Debuting at the top spot on most Mexican charts, the album featured the hit song "Labios del Miel."
