The Dallas Stars franchise was founded in 1967 in Minneapolis as the Minnesota North Stars.  The team did manage to improve enough to reach the Stanley Cup finals in 1981, but financial woes had ownership clamoring to move the team to the Bay Area.  Instead the owners were awarded another expansion team in the San Jose Sharks.  They sold the North Stars, and the team was moved to Dallas as the Dallas Stars.  Starting in the mid to late ‘90s, the Stars became a western powerhouse, winning the Cup in 1999.  The team has continued to be a perennial playoff contender, and hopes this season to make it all the way again.
